Message from the President
President
Dae Won Seo
The Korean Neurological Association
Dear Respected Members of the Korean Neurological Association
The current healthcare environment is surrounded by unprecedented challenges—from the health of our aging population and essential medical services to regional imbalances and issues in physician supply. It is a period where our individual efforts to take responsibility for and advance the field of neurology often feel overwhelming amidst such an unpredictable future. However, I believe that these rapidly changing external circumstances can serve as a pivotal opportunity to enhance our excellence. Based on the remarkable growth we have achieved over the past half-century—evolving from a nascent society into a core medical institution—I am confident that if our 2,200 neuro-specialists unite and create organic synergy, we will lead the way to a bright future. We will concentrate all our capabilities to contribute to the success and happiness of every member.
Since its foundation in 1982, the KNA has grown into a rapidly expanding platform for neurological experts. Currently, 2,232 members are actively engaged across academia, hospitals, and private practice, while 276 residents are undergoing training. We maintain close cooperative relationships with 8 sub-societies, 26 affiliated societies, and 8 regional chapters to improve member welfare and advance the field of neurology. Standing at the center of these connections, the KNA serves as a vital link, empowering Korea’s top experts and attracting brilliant talents to neurology, thereby fulfilling its role as the backbone of brain medicine.
The extraordinary progress we have achieved both domestically and internationally is the result of the united strength of our members and the dedication of former leadership. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the former leadership, including Former Chair of Organizing Committee Beom-seok Jeon, who established the administrative framework of the secretariat, and Former President Seung-Hyun Kim and his board of directors for their exceptional service.
In this era of a super-aging society, with the rise of AI, smart healthcare, and new drug development, the opportunity for neurology to become the center of medicine is increasing. However, there are still many uncertainties in clinical practice and a lack of public understanding of neurologists. To address these challenges, we must establish a proper framework for medical policy and vision. It is time for the KNA to strive further to become an organization that is "Loved by the Public and Trusted by its Members," dedicated to "Enhancing Public Brain Health and Improving Member Welfare."
During my two-year term, I will honor the achievements of past leadership while focusing on immediate tasks. Together with the Board of Directors, I will foster harmonious development through connection and collaboration. We will:
Systematize Member Support: Establish an organic support system from residency to specialist practice, including the implementation of an advanced information system for examinations and training.
Strengthen Policy & Advocacy: Take a proactive role in planning, insurance, and medical law to provide practical solutions and lead policies related to essential and emergency medical services.
Enhance Academic & Global Standing: Enrich our digital presence in the AI era, elevate the status of KNA official journals, and successfully host ENAF and IC-KNA to strengthen our international influence.
Public Outreach & Cooperation: Focus on improving public awareness of neurology and strengthening our partnership with the Korean Neurologists Association to build a member-friendly administrative system.
The active suggestions and advice from our members will be the most precious energy source for the newly formed leadership. I ask for your continued interest and passion. We will never forget the importance of the clinical field and will work toward creating a more efficient and tightly-knit KNA.
Best regards,
Dr. Dae-Won Seo
President
Korean Neurological Association (KNA)
